Hygiene recommendations for disposable dishes

Health recommendations regarding the use of disposable containers

• When using disposable containers, attention should be paid to the abbreviation engraved on the bottom of the disposable container.

• The use of polyethylene (PE) and propylene (PP) containers, which are white in color and are mainly used for packing and storing dairy products, oil and vinegar, is safe for hot and moist foods.

• The use of polystyrene foam containers (EPS) and white polystyrene containers (HIPS) for hot and moist foods does not create a problem, but it is unsuitable for storing hot foods. The use of transparent polystyrene containers (GPPS) is only suitable for cold drinks and is not suitable for hot foods such as tea and coffee.

• Disposable polymer containers that are of petroleum origin are very harmful, pathogenic and especially carcinogenic because they dissolve in hot, fatty foods and sour and acidic substances, while they are not degradable and destructible and pollute the environment.

• Disposable polystyrene containers are made of styrene monomer, which is an aromatic compound, and when exposed to a temperature higher than 65 degrees Celsius, this monomer is released, which has carcinogenic effects. Therefore, the Ministry of Health has prohibited the storage, transportation and packaging of food with a temperature higher than 65 degrees in polystyrene plastic containers. Since fat accelerates the release process of this toxic monomer, it is forbidden to pack fatty foods in such containers.

• Polystyrene containers are available in three types: transparent, fragile, soft, and semi-transparent, as well as foam. Food and drug experts recommend the use of disposable vegetable containers to all families and professions due to their good health benefits.

In general, plastics are polymers that are prepared from the synthesis of raw materials called monomers. Monomers are toxic and harmful to human health; While polymers are neutral and have no problem. But the problem is that usually some monomer remains in the process of preparing polymers. If this process is carried out in accordance with the necessary standards, it will not cause any problems for people’s health. For this reason, one should be very cautious in using plastics as food containers, and at the same time, any type of plastic should not be allowed to be used for food packaging.” The point is that the users of containers should also pay enough attention to it, and they must buy disposable plastic containers from reputable centers that use high-quality and desirable raw materials; prepare
